Has Page done for Dowie

Iain Dowie has become the latest managerial casualty, being relieved of his duties at Championship Coventry City after a string of recent poor results have left the midlands club hovering above the drop zone.

Nothing unusual in that, and what has it got to do with Huddersfield Town anyway.

Robert Page ! that's what.

Page was as we know signed from Coventry City, under Dowie he wasn't get a look in at first team level.
He signs for the terriers, and gets rave reviews and is a major contributor to four consecutive clean sheets.
All this widely reported.

It might possibly have played a very small part in the decision taken by the board.

I am not saying it was a major factor, but it surely cannot have helped Dowies cause.

Our gain is their loss !

Miles off the target. Robert Page's exit was an inevitable outcome after his training ground fracas with Michael Doyle back in February last year; Pagey by all accounts knocked two of Doyle's teeth out and Doyle immediately handed in a transfer request. Being the more valuable of the two players (both financially and in terms of to the team), when Dowie came in it was obvious that should any kind of peace deal be brokered, one of the two players would have to leave - and that player would be Robert Page. Recent form has suggested we could have used Page in defence, but that's more to do with an injury crisis than a poor decision not to make use of Page's talents. In either case, the stated reason for Dowie's departure (which makes a lot more sense than poor league form, given that we've also had very good cup form) is that the new ownership want a manager with a vision in tune with their own. Perfectly reasonable, and a lot more rational than "he let Robert Page go on a free transfer, who subsequently played well for a team in a lower division".
