HTFC - Veteran Bennett Joins Terriers

Ian Bennett was today revealed as Lee Clark's fourth summer signing at Huddersfield Town

The veteran 'keeper will join Huddersfield on a free transfer upon the expiry of his current deal at Sheffield United.

Bennett, 38, of course follows Gary Naysmith to The Terriers this summer after both jumped ship from Sheffield United.

Lee Clark spoke about the signing to htafc.com:-

'I knew I would need to bring another goalkeeper in this summer and Ian fits the criteria for the position precisely.

'I wanted someone to provide Alex Smithies with genuine competition for the position in the starting eleven and Ian will definitely do that, but he also has bags of experience, knowledge and know-how that our young goalkeepers will benefit from massively each day in training.

'I'm delighted that we can welcome Ian to the Club and I believe he will contribute massively this season as we push for promotion to the Championship.'

Bennett will certainly provide the competition for current number one Alex Smithies, and Bennett has a host of experience to pass on following stints with Newcastle, Birmingham City, Leeds United and Sheffield United.

So as we welcome Ian on board, we ask your views!

Is Ian Bennett the signing you were hoping for?

Should Lee Clark perhaps have got someone a bit younger?

Will Lee Clark treat our 'keepers like Fabio Capello treats the England 'keeper position!!

What ever your thought or views let us have them here at Vital Huddersfield!!

good backup, cant see him taking smithies place personally, but you never know
Terrier24
To me this suggests Clark isnt too confident of keeping Smithies and has a good backup in case he goes.

Oh look another player whos past it signs for Huddersfield retirement home...sorry Football club. Out with the young, promising and cheap and in with the past it, old and expensive wages. Didnt we learn anything from Stan Ternants reign?
HuddersfieldYiddo
Yeah we did - dont buy 20 players in the same position, and dont put *****e who wer epast it 20 years ago on 5 year contracts. Oh and If you times 750k by 3 you may be getting close to the figure we want for Smithies.

lmao blades... get real

I think your side is looking better already and the keeper will certainly help keep young Smithies on his toes. Reckon you will be going for it again next season.
