'If It's Football, It's Vital'

HTFC - A results based business

With Lee Clark set to sign a new contract with Huddersfield anytime now he knows that the pressure is on for him to secure promotion in the coming season.

Having missed out on the championship for a second successive season in the play-offs he knows, as he told The Examiner, that with football a 'results based business' he needs to deliver this (promotion) next season or face the consequences of not doing so.

Achieving the promotion goal is very much what Clark wants tough: 'football is one of the most results-driven businesses around, it's vital that we win promotion, and nobody is more determined to do it than me.'

If the 38-year-old would pay the price of losing his job should promotion fail to materialise in the coming season is anybodies guess, if this was the case then giving him a new contract would seem slightly strange?

With a year left on his existing deal extending this would mean that extra compensation would have to be paid to him should he be dismissed, not that I am saying this will not happen.

Chances are, if the upward climb that Huddersfield have made under Clark continues, that he will deliver promotion in 2011/12 and without the need of the play-offs! Finishes of 9th, 6th and 3rd do show a steady rise in the Clark-era.

What price Town winning league one this season...

good article and a good point. What's the point of giving Clark a contract extension if he's going to be sacked if we don't get promoted this year? For me the answer is that he won't be sacked if we don't go up. Unless of course there's going to be a clause that states he won't get compo if we don't go up?

Compensation can work both ways.WE would receive a greater amount of compensation once Lee Clarkes contract has been extended should another club manage to tempt him away.Cant see Lee Clarke will looseing his job at the end of the season whatever happens.Dean Hoyle has gone on record numerous times stating that he planning for the long term. The contract extension is a wise move imo.

I agree triple d. chopping and changing achieves nothing, and if he does attract other clubs it take more to get him
