Captain Peter Clarke is desperate to return to the Huddersfield Town starting eleven following a spell on the sidelines through injury.
Clarke has the perfect chance to do just that on Saturday away at Brentford as Jamie McCombe faces a 3 match ban for his red card last week.
Clarke will face tough competition from Hull loanee Liam Cooper who made a sub appearance last week following McCombe's dismissal, however it is expected that it will be the Captain who will return in place of Boom Boom.
Clarke who has been a virtual ever present since joining Huddersfield, walked away with last seasons PFA Fans League 1 Player of the Year Trophy, has missed the last 7 games as Kay and McCombe developed a good partnership.
Clarke doesn't expect that it will be an easy decision for Lee Clark to pick between himself and Cooper stating "Jamie might be suspended, but there`s no certainty I will return. All I can do is work hard to stake a claim, and that`s what I`ve done." and as we all know there is a strong squad and Clarke reaffirmed 'no player is ever guaranteed a place'
Clarke went on to speak to The Examiner about his back injury:-
"I missed some games due to my back problem. It was the first time I`d been out injured, but it had got to the stage where something had to be done,"
"I was in pain all the time, no matter whether I was standing up or laid down, and I couldn`t even play with my kids
Thankfully, a specialist cured the injury, and I`m now fit, willing and able, so it`s been tough to have to watch games rather than play.
"I spoke with the manager and we had a sensible conversation. He said if players are doing well, they have a right to keep the shirt, and I have no problem with that. I`d be among the first to acknowledge that Antony and Jamie were doing the business.
"I`m desperate to get back in, but at least the spell out has given me chance to recover fully and get back to being pain-free, which has to be a good thing."
I fully expect that he will get the nod ahead of Cooper however with Lee Clark's team selection you can never be 100% sure.
Good news is that a fit Peter Clarke is certainly an asset to Huddersfield Town and its great that our best defender is available for selection again.
