Ridehalgh wants Swindon extension

Liam Ridehalgh is set to extend his loan at Swindon until the end of the season after joining the Robins two months ago.

The Huddersfield Town academy product joined Di Canio's Swindon at the end of September and has certainly made a good impression having featured 11 times so far for the Wiltshire outfit.

Swindon have risen up the table since Ridehalgh's arrival and the 20 year-old left back looks set to stay on as Swindon aim for promotion back to league one at the first attempt.

All that remians is for Huddersfield to confimr the extension after Di Canio, Swindon's Chairman and Ridehalgh himself all proclaiming they would like to extend the deal until the end of the season.

Ridehalgh told BBC Wiltshire:-

'The chairman has asked permission to keep me for the rest of the season and I think they've agreed,'

'I'd like to stay as we've got a lot of things to look forward to.'

'We're in a good position in the league, we've got Wigan at home in the FA Cup, and the area final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy so it's looking good for Swindon.'

'Lee Clark told me to go out and get a few games and come back to fight for your place,'

But they've got two brilliant left-backs at Huddersfield now and they're doing really well so I'd be third choice if I went back.

'There's no point in me just sitting around and playing in reserve games when I can get experience down here.

'It's been a good learning curve, on the field and off the field. It's made my performances on the field better and off the field I've had to do stuff I'm not used to as I live with my parents but I'm living on my own here. It's been really good and I've enjoyed it.'

It probably would be good for Ridehalgh to finish the season at Swindon, but lets not forget that he featured a lot for Huddersfield last season and did put in some impressive displays for a young lad.

Personally I would like him back at Town to provide cover and challenge with Woods & Naysmith but I can understand his desire to remain at Swindon where he is first choice.

Leave him where he is.He is gaining valuable experience.Clark would probably go out and buy or loan a full back if he needed one.If the way he reacted to Alan Lee's suspension is anything to go by.
