PETER CLARKE FACING DOUBLE HERNIA SURGERY

PETER CLARKE is set for a spell on the sidelines as he heads for surgery to clear a double hernia; the Operation is booked in for this coming Tuesday.

The injury had been discussed on social media recently but had remained until now unconfirmed by the club.

Huddersfield Town Manager Lee Clark explained the issue to htafc.com today:

'Peter will be available for the MK Dons game, but on Tuesday he'll go into the operating theatre for the same operation that Gary Roberts had recently - a double hernia.

'In today's terms it's not a big procedure - they are quite common procedures in modern day football. Knowing Peter as I do, I imagine he will be back in three or four weeks and with the situation with the Stevenage game he could only miss three or four games.

'We could have kept Peter playing by giving him jabs, but he would need the procedure eventually and further down the line there was a chance he could miss five or six games and so we feel this is the best time to do it.

'When he does come back, he'll be back to 100%.'

Everyone had their doubts that Clarke was performing at his absolute best and one must ask how long he had been carrying this injury.

The Captain has been a real leader since joining Huddersfield Town and has been voted Player of the year for two seasons.

Lee Clark added in closing:-

'The bottom line is that Peter has been our 'Player of the Year' for two seasons; he's our Captain and he's by far and away the best centre half in this League when he's 100% fit. However, he's had one or two issues like his back problem.

'Peter is a very proud and strong man and sometimes he doesn't let on when he has an injury issue, so it's difficult to get him to go and see a specialist - but sometimes that can work against him. He defended very well towards the end of the Brentford game and he deserves unbelievable credit for it, but together with the medical team we've decided now is the time to get it done so that we get him back 100% fit for the run-in.'

Get well soon Peter, you will be missed - but what a great acquisition a fit Peter Clarke will be as we approach the final run-in.
