Damien Johnson joins Fleetwood Town
Damien Johnson has rejected a new contract at new Championship side Huddersfield Town, in favour of a move to league two new boys Fleetwood Town.
The Irish man revealed that it was Fleetwood's ambition which lured the midfielder to join the League two club.
The 33-year-old, who played a key role in Huddersfield Town's promotion, was released by Plymouth at the end of the season.
However Johnson couldn't agree to the terms on the table offered by Huddersfield and has chosen instead to drop two divisions.
'They had a great season and they're not happy just being in League Two,' Johnson told BBC Radio Lancashire.
'I sat down with the manager (Micky Mellon) and the chairman (Andy Pilley) and they convinced me that they wanted to have a go next season.
'They were very enthusiastic and very positive about next season and convinced me that this was the right place for me.'
You would think this is a good final pay-day for Johnson.
I wish him well, but for us we move on to hopefully bigger and better things.

I thought he did a decent job for us and would have liked him to stay. Can only assume he was told he wouldn't be guaranteed a starting place and therefore a new midfielder coming in
