GK coach John Vaughan departs Town

Huddersfield Town Goalkeeping coach John Vaughan has joined Birmingham City.

The 48-year-old links up with former Town manager Lee Clark at St Andrews, he also will join up with Terry McDermott who is Clark's assistant again & Derek Fazakerley their new first-team coach.

Vaughan's playing career took him to West Ham, Fulham, Cambridge, Charlton, Preston and Lincoln. He moved into coaching with York City before spells at Macclesfield & Grimsby before joining up with Town's Academy.

In 2006 Vaughan was promoted to first-team duties by then manager Peter Jackson. Vaughan would continue his role under a further four managers at Town in Andy Ritche, Stan Ternent, Lee Clark and latterly Simon Grayson.

Vaughan replaces Dave Watson, another ex-Town coach, who has departed Birmingham in favour of Norwich City.

Simon Grayson will now begin the hunt for a new GK coach at Huddersfield Town, and with pre-season already underway expect him to move swiftly.

Grayson could only describe Vaughans departure as 'disappointing' when questioned but wished him well with his new role at Birmingham.

Town fans have much to thank Vaughan for during his spell with the club, having worked through the Academy and the first team, he certainly played a key role in the development of Alex Smithies and emerging Lloyd Allinson.

Good luck with Birmingham John.

Bye John, my only real memory of him was when he smacked a ball into the crowd at Colchester away and took a woman full out with the force - an accident but one it took him ages to come over and apologise for - However thanks for all he has done with the Keepers in his time here. looking forward to seeing who we now get in!
