'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Neil Warnock reveals all

NEIL WARNOCK has revealed that he was offered the chance to join Huddersfield Town after the then sacking of Lee Clark.

That probably isn't a well kept secret with many knowing Warnock was approached before Town then appointed Simon Grayson, who ultimately earnt Town the promotion form League 1 to the Championship.

The 64-year-old, who brought his time to a close at Leeds United early, and after tasting defeat to Mark Robins's Huddersfield Town side; is now retired and spending time promoting his book.

Warnock spoke to the Exmainer:-

'There was an opportunity at the time. It was something I thought about, but I decided both of us were better off going in other directions,"

"I like (chairman) Dean Hoyle and his wife and there are a lot of people still behind the scenes at Huddersfield from my time there, like (secretary) Ann Hough.

"It`s like a family, a fantastic club. Hurt one you hurt us all. Huddersfield Town are still a very special club to me and I was rooting for them to stay up on the last day of the season.

"I was in a television studio and it was nerve-wracking for me. I don`t know what it must have been like to be in the stadium.

"I rate Mark Robins, and Dean Hoyle is as good a chairman as anyone will get. I am sure they will make a great partnership, and I will watch Town's progress from afar.

"Town need a decent start, but it helps so much when a club is stable. Mark Robins has a supportive chairman and they have all the right ingredients."


Warnock of course guided Town to two Wembley appearances in his time winning promotion. An Autoglass Trophy defeat to Swansea in 1994 and a memorable League 1 play-off final win over Bristol Rovers 12 months later. Chris Billy & Andy Booth scoring memorable goals on that day.

Warnock has never been shy of speaking his mind to the media but his most memorable moments have also been captured on YouTube for the world to enjoy. I'm sure you have all seen it but if not.
