Ian Bennett Potential New Coach?

Veteran keeper Ian Bennett, who was released at the conclusion of the season as his contract had expired could be back at Huddersfield Town sooner than originally thought!

The 42-year-old, vastly popular with fans and players alike, has admitted that preliminary talks have taken place with Town over a coaching role.

Bennett who made 74 appearances over 4 seasons with The Terriers is already taking his coaching badges and despite not ruling out carrying on as a player somewhere else, Bennett felt he owes it to himself to cast an eye to the long term.

'Benno' was an ever present on the bench this season as Alex Smithies completed an ever-present season between the sticks on the field.

Nick Colgan, the current Town Under 18 goalkeeping coach could potentially be promoted to the seniors leaving an opening for Bennett to step in and take over the coach role at junior level initially.

A lot will depend on what offers land on the table for Bennett who came through the ranks at QPR before joining Newcastle and eventually Peterborough where he made his break into the Football League. Bennett has also taken in spells with Leeds Unites, Coventry and Sheffield United.

Bennett would certainly be welcomed back into the fold at Town with all the players holding the experienced stopper in high acclaim.
