£50,000 Weekly Wage Now Passed In Premier League

£50,000 Weekly Wage Now Passed In Premier League

The average weekly wage in the Premier League has now surpassed the £50,000 mark for players for the first time according to a new study.

The Global Sports Salaries Survey 2017 looked into first team wages from 465 sides in 29 leagues, across 16 countries, and also looked into the differences in wages between sportsmen and sportswomen, with an obvious and noticeable gender pay gap.

The full report and survey is available on the above link, but for these purposes, the report found that the average annual wage in the top flight was now £2,642,508 - the equivalent of £50,817 per week - and whilst the Premier League remains an incredibly rich brand in itself, NBA side Oklahoma City Thunder have become the highest paid sports team in history.

The survey doesn't tell the whole story though as it draws its numbers from wages - not endorsements - across sport.

Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are the three football sides who feature in the top ten table, with seven NBA franchises making up the remainder.

Whilst Barcelona boast the highest wage bill in the game at £6.6million a week, PSG come in at £6.72million. For the Premier League average we are now at £2.6million which is almost double Germany's Bundesliga at £1.26million. The average in Spain is £1.68million with French Ligue 1 coming in at £944,405.

As a whole the Premier League comes in fourth in the overall table across sport, but to put that in perspective, Manchester United are the first club entry at 23 and neighbours Manchester City join at 24 for England.
