'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Gary Taylor-Fletcher on Jackson

On Jackson's departure, Taylor-Fletcher said: 'As players, we have to accept a large part of the blame for the situation.

'I think it's fair to say we let him down, because as a squad, we have definitely under-performed.

'When you look at what we did last season (getting to the play-off semi-finals), we should have been able to at least match that.

'We've been inconsistent and have struggled to win at home, but I think he could have turned things round and had us challenging again next season.

'He's brought in three good loan signings, and while Andy Taylor and Paul Hayes might only be here temporarily, we're hoping Frank Sinclair joins permanently.

'We've got the quality in the squad to do far better and under Peter Jackson, John Dungworth and Martyn Booty, the training and team spirit was good.

'I know Peter fell out with a few of the players latterly, but bust-ups are part and parcel of football and claims he 'lost' the dressing room are absolute rubbish.

'I can vouch for the fact that the vast majority of the players are very sorry he's gone.'

While thanking Jackson, Taylor-Fletcher insisted the squad are fully behind the caretaker management team of Gerry Murphy, Dungworth, Booty, Graham Mitchell and John Vaughan, and added: 'We'll give 100% to the new manager as well.

'While we might not all have agreed with the decision the club took on Peter Jackson, we fully accept that the board run the club and have every right to take action as they see fit.

'Managerial changes are part of football, and as a player, you accept that things change.'
