'If It's Football, It's Vital'

FA-It's ok to swear in Portuguese

The Football Association has decided not to take any action against Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho after his alleged comments about referee Mike Riley.
Mourinho denied intending to offend Riley by using a Portuguese swear word during Sunday's 3-3 draw with Tottenham in the FA Cup quarter-final.

Mourinho lept to his feet to protest to the match referee, Mike Riley, apparently to remonstrate with him over an incident that he felt had been wrongly handled by the referee

After a brief exchange there was very up close footage of the Chelsea manager mouthing the words 'hijo de puta', repeatedly to the match official. The incident was even noted by 'commentator' Mark Lawrenson who stated he knew what he'd said but couldn't possibly say what it meant on national television.

'Hijo de puta' means 'Son of a whore'.

Mourinho added: 'I say this kind of word 10 times in every 15 words.'

He added: 'I say it 50 times a game, 50 times in training. I don't want to be offensive. I can be emotional but I am polite.'

Mike Riley is a good referee so I hope next time we have him, things go back to normal

Chelsea were losing 3-1 at the interval during Sunday's match but Mourinho insisted his use of the word was not directed at the official.

'The word can be abusive if you understand it as an abusive word,' he stated.

If screaming it at a referee does not count as abusive, what does !

Mourinho went on to say

'I tell the word to my players and myself when I am not happy. It is something I say when the ball hits the post.'

Mourinho alleged that there had been controversy in all the Chelsea matches in which Riley had officiated this season.

'In my opinion, he gave too many decisions against us. I don't think they were big decisions but every free-kick in midfield was against Chelsea,' he said.

'I am not saying they had a big influence on the result, I am not saying that, but too many free-kicks is a big frustration for the players.

'It breaks the intensity of the game and we are not happy. But that's football.

We at Vital do wonder about the F A, and some of the very odd decisions it makes. Mourinho was recently given a meeting with Professional Game Match Official chief Keith Hackett in the wake of the controversy surrounding Graham Poll's handling of a previous Chelsea Spurs game

This in contrast to Arsene Wenger, Alan Pardew and many others being brought before them to answer various charges, indeed Arsene Wenger faces charges of improper conduct after labelling officials 'liars' following the sending off of Manu Adebayor in the league cup final.

It seems to us another case of double talk and inconsistency of approach which ultimately reduces fan's faith in the governing bodies.

Players and managers take note, swear in Portuguese, Spanish anything but the English language, because apparently that's ok.

Wonder about the FA all you like. The incident wasn't important enough to make it into the ref's report. They made no decision either way because it wasn't there to make a decision on. You have mugged by a good old trial by media incident. They mae you think something had happened when it didn't. More fool you.
