Paul Hayes recalled by Barnsley

Paul Hayes will return to Barnsley today after being recalled by their manager Simon Davey.

The striker was summoned back to Oakwell following a spate of injuries there, meaning that his last game for Town would have been the weekend's clash with Brighton & Hove Albion.

However, Hayes picked up an injury in training on Wednesday that now rules him out of the long trip to face the Seagulls on Saturday and as a result Murphy has let him return to Oakwell today.

Caretaker Manager Gerry Murphy commented

'Paul has been fantastic since I have taken over first-team affairs here. He's a model professional during his time with us and has contributed with a great goal against Bradford at the Galpharm, as well as an impressive performance at Carlisle last weekend.

'In an ideal world, I would have loved to have him here for the rest of the season but it is Barnsley's right to call him back. Luckily for us, John McAliskey looks to be hitting form at just the right time - he scored two goals in yesterday's Reserve game and has been outstanding in the last two games as a whole.'

Vital view - Like we said at the time Pawel Abbott should not have been sold to Swansea.
We have three first team squad strikers now in Booth, Beckett and McAliskey. Boothy's just coming back from injury and could get injured again given his age, and McAliskey has not played for the first team in months. Perhaps 'Fletch' could be drafted in to play upfront again but it's far from an ideal situation.

Of course we can't do what we did at Rotherham before Hayes was recruited, when Booth was injured, which was to play Brandon alongside Beckett, unless we recall him from Blackpool !

Lets hope McA comes good, otherwise we could be struggling for firepower.
