Huddersfield Town and Mitre today announced a four-year partnership that will see the British sports brand supply the Club with home and away kits, training and bench wear until May 2011.
The deal will see Mitre manufacturing Huddersfield Town's kit for the Centenary season in 2008/09 when a special, one-off kit to commemorate the club's 100th Birthday.
Mitre was originally founded in Huddersfield in 1817. The brand has a strong footballing heritage and is thought to be the first ever supplier of footballs and has been the official ball supplier to the Football League for over a quarter of a century.
After an absence from the football kit design and development arena Mitre have re-entered the market, supplying Huddersfield Town as well as Championship club Ipswich Town.
This is not the first time that Mitre has been Huddersfield Town's official kit manufacturer. Many Town supporters will remember the popular Mitre-manufactured kit for the 1999/00 and 2000/01 seasons when Panasonic were the main club sponsors.
The design of Town's new 2007/08 kit is being kept under-wraps in readiness for a grand unveiling on Monday April 16th
Huddersfield Town Director of Business Development, Sean Jarvis, said: 'We are delighted to have Mitre on board and have high expectations of the new partnership. Mitre and Huddersfield go back a long way. I firmly believe the fans will be really impressed when they see the design and quality of the products that we plan to produce with Mitre and will also be pleased that we have chosen to work with an organisation whose heritage is firmly rooted in the Town'.
Gary Hibbert, Mitre brand director, said: 'The links that Mitre has with the town of Huddersfield meant we were always keen to sign a partnership with the Club. They are a fantastic community Club with an excellent and knowledgeable fan base - hopefully they will be pleased with the new kit designs.'
