'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Herbert Chapman is the man

Latest poll results are in, than you for your contributions.

No suprises here, the winner was Herbert Chapman who actually amongst all football pundits, experts, stato's etc is generally rated to be one of if not the finest English Manager of all time, so had he not won, things would have been slightly odd.

Who do you think has been Town's best ever manager....so far !

Peter Jackson 4%
Brian Horton 1%
Lou Macari 0%
Neil Warnock 31%
Steve Bruce 3%
Mick Buxton 8%
Ian Greaves 13%
Tom Johnston 0%
Bill Shankley 1%
Herbert Chapman 39%

A close second was Neil Warnock who as the most successful high profile manager we have had in recent times, (Bruce didn't win anything) and the last manager to get us out of FL1 was always going to poll well.

These two polled 70% of the votes, third place went to Ian Greaves who was the last manager to get the club promoted to the top flight back in the 69/70 season.

Mick Buxton as a previously successful manager in the late 70's early 80's polled a few votes, for his swashbuckling style of play that had Steve Kindon, Malcolm Clarke and Ian Robins in the side.

Bill Shankley of course was and still is one of the most famous managers to ply his trade in Britain, his success occured when he left Town for Liverpool. We have a link to a previous article on Shankley below
