'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Want cash, then go to Chelsea

David Beckham remains the world's richest footballer. He and his wife Victoria have increased their wealth by £25m to £112m in the past year.

However, according to a list compiled by the Sunday Times Michael Owen is the richest player under 30 in Britain with a worth of £37m. Owen is £7m ahead of Wayne Rooney who is next in the table with £30m, but a sizeable proportion of that is contributed by his fiancée Collen McLoughlin. Asda, Nike and Coca-Cola among the brands associated with the couple.

Joint third are Rio Ferdinand, Thierry Henry and Andrly Shevchenko, each with a cool £25 million.

The rankings are dominated by players from Chelsea, eight of whom, with a total worth of £107m, find a place in the top twenty-one.

Manchester United, Arsenal and Newcastle each supply three players, with two from Liverpool.

The other clubs to be featured are Bolton, represented by Nicholas Anelka, worth £9m and Wigan with Emile Heskey valued at £12m, but at the age of 29, he has had time to build up his stash.

Needless to say Huddersfield does not feature heavily in the list.
