'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Local clubs for local people

In an imitation of the well known comedy shop routine in League of Gentlemen, vanman puts forth the Huddersfield model of football success.

Our recent article on the Premiership seems to have caused a bit of debate.

Regular contributor 'vanman' has sent us his thoughts on the top clubs and our academy.

I think the fans of clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea & Liverpool are deluding themselves, the success they now have unlike of years ago, has less and less to do with the towns and localities they represent and does not reflect on the area, the locality or the supporters.

Its all just big business, with players and staff doing it for themselves despite what they say to the contrary, they have by and large just hijacked clubs to do it with and hoodwinked supporters into believing they have a say or are included or represented at all.

What do African, Portuguese, Japanese, French etc players, know of or even care about the local population, its culture, its employment, its identity with the football clubs they support.

At least at Huddersfield we have a team of which half the side is made up of academy graduates who have strong links to the town, and care about the locality and understand its people, and can go someway to properly representing them, in return the supporters who identify with one of their own, feel rightfully included.

What do you think, have Huddersfield got it right, and the premiership clubs wrong, league position would suggest otherwise ?

The key always has been support your LOCAL team irrespective of its make-up!

Agree. Support your local team. If you happen to be born in Rochdale then thats your bag. Screw Man U and Citeh. Fans from the lower leagues are invariably more knowledgeable, well rounded individuals.... maybe thats because of the pies though?
