'If It's Football, It's Vital'

McLeish - resting, no, no, no

In an ominous statement for Huddersfield Town fans Birmingham City Manager Alex McLeish told BBC WM

That he thinks the squad he inherited is too small for him to rest key players ahead of Saturday's FA Cup tie with Huddersfield at the Galpharm Stadium.

'We need to add players to the squad,'

'These boys can't go through the season playing at the work rate they've been given without any rotation at all, they're going to need some help.'

To back up his statement he has also called 16-year-old midfielder Jordan Mutch into their squad for the FA Cup third round tie.

Blues assistant boss Roy Aitken said: 'One thing with the manager (Alex McLeish) is that right throughout his career his approach has been `if you are good enough, you are in the selection plans'.

'Jordan has come into the group, will go with us to the cup tie, and it will be good experience for him. It also shows all our youngsters around the place that if you are doing well, you will get promoted.

Mutch's chances of being involved revolve around Mehdi Nafti failing to recover from a viral infection.

Nafti, Radhi Jaidi and Richard Kingson will be available for the final time against the Terriers before departing for the African Nations Cup.
