If you are going down to the Galpharm to watch the Huddersfield v Birmingham City FA Cup 3rd Round tie, and get as close to the premiership experience as you can, think on (as many in Yorkshire would say)
The £15-£20 you are paying could actually be very good value for money.
Yes I know this sounds odd considering how the terriers have been performing lately, but read on.
Sir Alex Ferguson has revived the 'prawn sandwich' debate by complaining about the lack of noise from the fans in Uniteds recent game against Huddersfields cup opponents Birmingham City.
Perhaps the pricing structure at Old Trafford reflects the club's need for fans with big salaries rather than singing voices? The average cost of a ticket is £34.
The most expensive non-corporate seat is £44 which is lower than £65 at Chelsea and £94 at Arsenal.
However Premiership teams in the north of England have historically been viewed as having a lower-wealth fan base.
The real money comes from supporters in the corporate seats, of which there are slightly more than 9,000 (compared with 3,000 for away fans).
In the Europa Suite, tickets are £425 a head plus VAT although that does include 'fine cuisine'. United have 1,000 executive boxes United's match-day income is more than £35m.
In fairness to United supporters, grounds everywhere may have become quieter with the changing demographic of supporters towards more corporate, wealthy and reserved match day viewers.
Coupled with the requirement for seating, and the more clinical feel of modern stadia.
It could explain why Sir Alex is complaining and indeed why many refer to the Galpharm as the moon 'no atmosphere'.
