We are though, qualified and drawn to play Oldham Athletic in the 4th Round of the FA Cup, a rare chance for Huddersfield Town fans to savour being still in the competition at this stage of the proceedings, the norm being the terriers going out at the earliest opportunity in recent seasons know matter what the opposition.
This gives us all the chance to discuss the FA Cup, and whilst Vital Huddersfield was surprised to see manager Andy Ritchie fielding an under strength side against the premiership might of Birmingham City, it has to be said most clubs now adopt this policy in cup competitions at some time or another.
The problem for the historic and still in our opinion not to bettered FA Cup competition, is that for the leading premiership clubs especially, winning carries no passport with it into the money rich world of the Champions League or the EUFA Cup.
Is it time that the competition winners were afforded a place in the Champions League, or at the very least a EUFA Cup berth.
EUFA European president Michel Platini thinks so, but has so far failed to get his proposals taken up.
Surely this would stop sub standard sides being fielded as often and the disrespect shown to this fine cup competition reduced.
With all the nagative feelings that this puts out as fans don't especially want to see their beloved team playing Arsenal reserves, and possibly getting beaten, and so don't buy the tickets in such great numbers.
Or turning up for an old fashioned cup tie only to realise that Manager of Mid Table Championship side really doesn't care about this competition, and has rested the very players you wanted to see playing.
