Huddersfield 4th Round Fate

The FA Cup does always, yes always throw up some interesting encounters

No not those bits of carrot, a metallic trophy cannot literally throw up, although the amount of champagne it has had in it down the years must qualify the old trophy as a bit of a serial alki.

Huddersfield Town v Oldham at Boundary Park

The two sides arguably put up the performances of the 3rd Round both knocking out premiership opposition they were thought to be inferior to.

A return for Andy Ritchie to the ground where he most definitely made most of his name, and much of it in the Joe Royle inspired Oldham FA Cup successes.

A meeting for Ritchie with the manager that he considers a good mate, John Sheridan.

John Dungworth Town's coach is another fomer player at both Huddersfield and Oldham.

A game for the terriers against probably the in form side in FL1 at the moment.

A return for Luke Beckett to Oldham one of his former clubs, just at a time when Beckett has questioned his future at the Galpharm due to limited first team opportunities brought on by Ritchie's preference for Mr Huddersfield Andy Booth.

Beckett of course involved in both goals against Birmingham, one score one assist.

It could not be closer in league status terms, Oldham 13th, Huddersfield 14th in League One.

The tie has further interest as it is a war of the roses Lancashire v Yorkshire clash.

Finally, but most crucially, it offers a very real chance for either of the unfancied sides to progress to the 5th Round (the last 16) of the competition.

Yes, the FA Cup, what a totally absorbing and thoroughly entertaining competition it continues to be, especially when you are still in it.

We are loving it, are you ?
