Huddersfield Town enter competitive football again after what seems an eternity of waiting!
The Terriers won promotion via last seasons League One play-offs to the Championship, however the first opponents of the season are Preston North End from League One in the Capital One Cup.
Preston, like Town, are much changed from last season with new manager Graham Westley completely overhauling the entire squad!
Preston have had a positive pre-season with wins against Plymouth, AFC Wimbledon, AEK Athens and gave Leeds United a good game recently.
Huddersfield have had a mixed pre-season with the focus being more on getting the players fit and gelled more than the actual results, Town finished their pre-season with a good display against Barcelona B, despite losing 2-0.
Huddersfield will be missing several key players for the game due to International call ups and Scott Arfield is doubtful.
Preston have a full squad to choose from with only Lee Trundle ruled out for them.
The game must be decided on the night with extra time and penalties if necessary.
Lee Trundle is sidelined with a knee injury.
Paul Huntington & John Mousinho have both recovered from knocks.
Shane Cansdell-Sherriff (Shrewsbury Town), John Welsh (Tranmere Rovers), Nicky Wroe (Shrewsbury Town), Paul Huntington (Yeovil Town), David Amoo (Liverpool), David Buchanan (Tranmere Rovers), Richard Wright (Ipswich Town), Scott Laird (Stevenage), Lee Holmes (Southampton), Jeffrey Monakana (Arsenal), John Mousinho (Stevenage), Brian McLean (Dundee United) are all looking for their full debuts
He may be a left-back but the former Stevenage man has an eye for goal and has always played well against Town in the past
Jordan Rhodes, Sean Scannell, Oliver Norwood, Murray Wallace & Joel Lynch are all on international duty.
Keith Southern, Adam Clayton and Paul Dixon are all in line for their full debuts.
Scott Arfield is the only injury concern as he recovers from his ankle surgery.
The the of player we have craved for years is finally here, expected a solid debut and a commanding performance from this man
The first prediction of the season is here. Positive thinking leads me to this one. Preston 1-2 Huddersfield.
