Cardiff City Stadium
17 August 2012
Cardiff City welcome Huddersfield Town to their Cardiff City Stadium on the opening game of the 2012/13 Championship season.
The two clubs had contrasting emotions at the end of last season with Cardiff suffering play-off heartbreak and Huddersfield the jubilation of winning after a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Sheffield United.
After all the speculation Jordan Rhodes is set to start the season with Huddersfield and is expected to lead thier front line this evening with Craig Bellamy re-signed at Cardiff set to be their main threat.
Lets not doubt ourselves Cardiff have real quality and tonight will be an extremely stern test in front of the live watching Sky TV audience.
This is Huddersfield's first game at Championship level for 12 years, Cardiff drew an amazing 18 times last season in the Championship.
"There is no pressure on us."
"It is a tough game for us, but they are all tough at this level and I`m looking for the boys to enjoy the experience,"
'We are looking forward to this first game and there is no pressure on us, because everyone is thinking it will be a Cardiff City home win.
"We are going there to relish the challenge in front of us and while the preparation hasn`t been ideal in terms of players being away, this is what we are here for.
"The Championship has always been our No1 priority andanything else which comes along in terms of the cups is just a bonus."
Kevin McNaughton, Mark Hudson, Ben Turner and Andrew Taylor all return from slight injuries after missing their midweek cup loss to Northampton.
Craig Bellamy also returns from International duty and is expected to start upfront.
Premiership quality. Massive dangerman.
Danny Ward is doubtful for Huddersfield with an ankle injury.
Jordan Rhodes returns from his Scotland senior debut, where he scored, and is expected to start.
Oliver Norwood, Joel Lynch, Sean Scannell also return and are expected to feature.
The goal machine is back in the spotlight tonight and all town fans will be hoping he can continue where he left off for Scotland in midweek.
This is the 66th meeting of these clubs over 91 years. Huddersfield lead by 29 wins to 18.
The most recent meeting was in the second round of the League Cup in August 2011, when Cardiff won 5-3, having been taken to extra time.
This is too tough to call, anything more than a draw would be unexpected. Cardiff City 1-1 Huddersfield Town.
