Watford vs. Huddersfield Town

Vicarage Road

19 January 2013

Watford v Huddersfield

The Championship game is ON! After Watford passed a 9AM pitch inspection.

Huddersfield go with an aim of a first win in 12 after failing to win in their previous 11 Championship fixtures.

Watford will be looking to push further up the table, they currently occupy 6th spot and are 10 points ahead of their West Yorkshire visitors.

Vital Quotes: Simon Grayson

They are a dynamic team who have excellent movement; it is going to be a tough game. Watford have been very good away from home, but not as good at home. If we can replicate some of our away performances from this season then I believe we have a very good chance.

"Gianfranco has done a fantastic job since last summer and his team has the ability to get a result when they need one to stay in the top six. To get a win at Middlesbrough last week was a great result for them and they have got players who are very comfortable on the ball."

We will try and win the game by playing through and from the shape of our team. We will have to work very hard to stop them playing and when we have the ball we will have to be effective. We have got players in our squad who are capable of hurting the opposition. The likes of Beckford, Vaughan and Scannell, who looks like he is back to best with his recent performances, have the ability to cause teams problems."

Watford Team News:

Midfielder Jonathan Hogg and defender Fitz Hall (both hamstring) ruled out.

Tommie Hoban (Achilles) rated doubtful

Connor Smith (knee) also ruled out

Player to watch: Vydra & Forestieri

Forestieri is a tricky customer, he demonstrated that at the Johns Smiths stadium, whilst striker Matej Vydra has also been sensational for Watford this season with his pace a key factor.

Huddersfield Town Team News:

Joel Lynch still recovering and won't be risked.

Danny Ward returns from injury, but is expected to be on the bench.

Player to watch: Neil Danns

The loanee from Leicester is set to play his second game for Huddersfield, and I have a feeling he could be key today.

Match Facts & Stats

A late penalty from Troy Deeney gave Watford a 3-2 victory in the reverse fixture in September, and denied Huddersfield the chance to go top of the table.

This is the 10th league meeting of these clubs at Vicarage Road. Huddersfield have won three, drawn three and lost three of the previous nine.

Three home points for the Hornets would give them a first ever double over the West Yorkshire club.

Huddersfield and Watford are two of the three clubs to have been issued with four red cards in this Championship campaign. Nottingham Forest are the other.

Ref Watch:

Newcastle based whistler Scott Duncan will be the man in the middle at Vicarage Road for the Championship clash between Watford and Huddersfield Town. Duncan has only just joined the National List, despite commencing refereeing in 2008 This will be a first Championship fixture for the referee who has take a total of 16 games this season with 29 yellow cards and 3 reds, all below Championship level, his last game was York v Burton which the minstermen won 3-0 Duncan also officiates in the Scottish division 3, taking 9 matches in this campaign showing 4 red cards and 37 yellows. He will be assisted by Daniel Cook & Craig Hicks, with Chris O'Donnell the fourth official.

Watford 2-2 Huddersfield
