HTFC- Terriers Beat Glovers

Huddersfield Town
2 - 1

Galpharm Stadium

29 Aug 2009

Attendance: 12,646

Huddersfield Town fought back from a goal down to win the game this afternoon at the Galpharm Stadium.

After conceding an early goal and then a penalty things were looking bleak for The Terriers, but Alex Smithies saved the penalty from Tomlin keeping the game at 1-0, which ultimately proved to be crucial.

Town looked out of sorts after recent impressive displays at home against Brighton and Southampton, and the much praise received from the performance up at Newcastle, maybe had taken its toll on the players.

Yeovil were quick out of the traps and deserved their lead.

Town were not to be outfought and they dug out a result espite not hitting top gear.

Theo Robinson scored the equaliser, just seconds after hobbling back on to the field following an injury.

Yeovil continued to press and look dangerous throughout, but it was Lionel Ainsworth's run and dinked cross that found the head of Michael Collins which proved to be the winner.

So another 3 points on the board, and winning ugly, Town are certainly going to make this season a rollercoaster for the fans!

But we wouldn't expect anything less!

Star Player

Theo Robinson, worked his socks off and never let a lost cause be a lost cause. Looked a threat throughout despite referee Mr Hooper seemingly refusing to give any freekicks to the speedy striker.

Player Ratings

Smithies 7

Saved a 14th minute penalty which ultimately proved crucial, other than the goal wasn't really tested.

Peltier 7

Recovered from his KO on wednesday night to face his former side, looked solid throughout

Skarz 7

Staking his clai on the left back berth, not much to do today

Butler 7

Solid as usual, no nonsense clearances when needed, forming a good partnership with Peter Clarke

P Clarke 8

Was everywhere, man mountain at the back. Leads by example

Kay 7

Another solid display from the improving Kay, shame we didnt sign him all those seasons ago

Collins 7

Scored the winner, but was missing for large parts of the game.

Ainsworth 7

On his first start in place of the injured Drinkwater, set up the goal for Collins, but did look short of game time, definately more to come from the exciting winger

Rhodes 6

Started the game with his head bandaged, and came off early in the second half, tried hard

Robinson 8

This guy was everywhere today, and takes the Vital MOM award, does he get your vote?

Pilkington 6

Despite me hyping him up before the game, Pilks hasn't hit the form as yet this season.

Novak 7

On for Rhodes, Lively as ever.

Robinson 5

Offside, does he know what this is?

Unlucky not to score when 1 on 1 with the 'keeper, but is looking more and more like the 4th choice striker

Goodwin 6

Back in the frame following his injury, nice to see him back, not really any time to influence the match.

Think yuou mean simpson for the 5 but never mind. Agree with all except pilkington who played pretty well and put some quality balls in and rhodes who played better than either central mid did.

I personally dont think Pilkington has hit the form he showed last season, didnt really notice him much in the game tbh, but i accept yur view...................................................................................................................... Vote in the poll thats and we will see what people thought................................................................................................................... Simpson I have to say was poor, his positional sense worries me and a bit of a lack of pace, for me Rhodes, Novak and Robinson are way ahead of him in the pecking order

If simpson gets one goal he may just be a different player. As for Pilkington, he wasnt MOTM by far, but he played better than Collins or Ainsworth. Collins didnt look up when he was taking the ball forward and was greedy in shooting so often when the strikers were in better positions. Ainsworth just took it that one step too far every time.
