Kallum began his football career at non-league Salford City, but joined Oldham Athletic as an 18 year-old. After playing extensively for the Latics' youth and reserve sides he moved again to join local neighbours Rochdale in 2007.

It was at Spotland that Kallum had had his first taste of first team football; he played 38 games on the wing in League 2 during the 2007/08 season before temporarily losing his place in the side the following season, resulting in two short loan spells at fellow League 2 side Accrington Stanley.

He re-established himself in the Dale side in 2009/10, making a further 32 appearances out wide. With his contract expiring, his form alerted Falkirk and he signed for them in the summer of 2010.

Another 34 appearances followed in his debut season in the Scottish First Division, but a switch to a position playing just behind the main striker at Falkirk has brought the best out of Kallum and had seen him recently linked with the likes of Scottish giants Rangers and Celtic alongside English Championship clubs Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town.

On 31 Jan 2012 Higginbotham signed for Huddersfield Town for an undisclosed fee thought to be around £150,000.
